"Ortalli 1996a" and "Ortalli 1996b" refer to his two articles in Ludica 2, found in the "References" link at the very bottom of the left margin-frame http://trionfi.com/0/e/14/
1996a is cited in documents 11, 12, and 13.

Ortalli 1996a
Gherardo Ortalli, "Giovanni Cagnolo e don Messore: un laboratorio per la fabbricazione dei tarocchi alla corte di Borso d'Este", Ludica 2, 163-169.

Ortalli 1996b
Gherardo Ortalli, "The Prince and the playing cards. The Este family and the role of courts at the time of the Kartenspiel-Invasion", Ludica 2, 175-205.

Ah, now I see. If I scroll down far enough, the final word on the left side is "References," which brings up the explanation of 1996a and 1996b. I hadn't noticed that.

Thank you, Ross, I did forget about this detail. It's from 16 years ago, my memory becomes weak.

Just for the record, here is the page in Ortalli. Pratesi 1987a is "Il gioco dei tarocchi e la sua storia," in G.Berti, A.Vitali, I tarocchi (1987) 111-129, https://naibi.net/A/05-TARSTO-Z.pdf. I wonder if he discovered it. Dummett 1993 is Il Mondo e l'Angelo.
