Well, he has his famous house in avignon with the tarasque painted :
firts stay 1476
second stay 1479
You wrote before and later: "The year before the command of 1479 that is in 1478, René is in his house for the second time in Avignon."
Alreday corrected :
1476
1478

Additional hypothetical data before 1476 - interesting if checked nevertheless

A. King René and la Fete Dieu d' Aix en Provence :
Augustin Fabre in Histoire de Marseille writes, but is he reliable ?
Clearly, Fabre hates Louis XI and idealise René and Provence ...
Nevertheless :
La Fête Dieu of Aix - en Provence
p 517
It is said that he finished the plan of these games en 1462 but that they were executed for the first time in 1473

B. A surprizing member of the Crescent Order : the Viguier en Marseille Jacques de PAZZI
http://jean.gallian.free.fr/comm2/p/pazzi.html
Maître d'hôtel du roi René, viguier de Marseille (1459, 1462 et 1464), seigneur d'Aubignan;

ms. fr. 5225 BNF"

I don't know why the author need to precise that : "Le blasonnement normal consiste en deux bars et non deux dauphins.
Has there been a confusion at some time?
His arms as member of the crescent is clearly 2 bars.

But now let's look at theses arms as Lord of Aubignan and Viguier de Marseille as given in the Crescent order
Jacques de PAZZI : bars or delphins?
Image

Well, for me, 2 delphins .

Jacques de Pazzi
Seigneur d'Aubignol et Loriol
Lord of Aubignan
http://wappenwiki.org/index.php/Chevaliers_du_Croissant
He was also :
Banquier, Syndic et Consul d'Avignon
Viguier de Marseille
Maître d' Hôtel de René d'Anjou
Chevalier de l' Ordre du Croissant

Arms of the Pazzi in Florence

This point may be of importance if confirmed...
I find no other partial explanation of the presence of Delphins in his Arms than the two followings ...

1. Blason des Alpes de Haute Provence / Dauphiné
2. Blason des Pazzi Florence

1. Blason des Alpes de Haute Provence / Dauphiné

Provence belongs to King René.
The arms are 2 bars.
BUT
One country of Provence, the high Alpes of Hautes Provence near Italy were before part of Dauphiné.
Image

So the arms of Haute Provence have the Dolphin to remember.
It will be part of the Comté of Provence before becoming in 1245 part of the House of Anjou and finally annexed in 1481 by Louis XI.
Louis XI annexe definitely the Alpes de Haute Provence in 1481

Data :

The Crescent Order instituated in 1448 would have been suppressed circa 1460 by Pope II : shouldn't it be 1464 at best, date of the election of Pope II ?) , ennemy of King René.
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_II
https://books.google.fr/books?id=xoWxsw ... &q&f=false p. 508

I suppose it is the same that is before :

Putting Alpha and Omega dates :

1449 Letter with 2 "proto-tarots" for Isabelle de Lorraine via Cossa
1505 literary reference to "Taraux"

My guess :

Avignon = important production playing cards city
1476 and 1478 : House(s) of René in Avignon
1479 : René's command to the paintor Tavernier

Without forgetting :
After 1450 : enigmatic remaining Goldschmidt luxury hand painted Cards on parchment mid XVth century

And a lot of additional data about events or persons of interest...

Well, we have in Avignon a Rovere cardinal, which means, the family of pope Sixtus IV, which organized the attack on Lorenzo, so Pazzi (also involved in the attack) in Avignon shouldn't surprise us.

And we have ...

If this is true, then art commissions from Rene in Avignon aren't surprising. Interesting is, that Renee found it promising to have a house in Avignon (1476) with a Rovere cardinal nearby. With some pressure from the side of Louis XI Renee had agreed to make the crown of France heir of some rights, for instance that on the kingdom of Naples, I remember, that this also happened in 1476.
What were Renee's considerations in his choice of a house in Avignon?

Rue (Pierre) Grivolas 6 in Avignon looks rather broken ...

... are you sure with the address?

Re: John Shephard - Goldschmidt tarot

Yes.

It's in renovation...since quite a while.

Huck

I have a question.

Relations between the PAZZI and the House of Anjou :
https://books.google.fr/books?id=_dk5SB ... ZI&f=false p.214

Jacques de PAZZI (René's Maître d'hotel)
Image

Jacques de Pazzi

He was also :
Banquier, Syndic et Consul d'Avignon
Viguier de Marseille
Maître d' Hôtel de René d'Anjou
Chevalier de l' Ordre du Croissant

and Jacoppo PAZZI (Chief of the Conspiration in 1478) refer to the same person or are they homonyms?

See updated article on :

If so, this would be of interest...
1464 ?End of Crescent Order (Jacques de PAZZI),
1478 FIRENZE (Jacoppo PAZZI)

Added later :
You seem not to dismiss the possibilty :

Of course, that's the same man.

Jacopo de Pazzi had a political function in Marseille in 1459, 1462 and 1464, and he likely was back after this time in Florence. Possibly a Pazzi bank still existed in Avignon in 1476? As pope Sixtus cooperated with the Pazzi bank?
Jacopo Pazzi was already rather old in 1478, 57 years.

The House of Renee d'Anjou looks rather small, or did Nr. 5 (opposite, looks similar old) also belong to it?
