I am not sure that I believe the images of Tarot are polysemic.
I think they had one particular meaning.
For example the Fool of the PMB Visconti shows 'uncivilised'
The example is very local- Tuscan Mountain Man, he was not pious, he would not pay taxes, he would not join guilds, he refused to go on crusades or join local militia. He contributed nothing to the City and therefore became a contrast to 'civilised' and was used as a public and humorous spectacle at occasions like weddings. He was not a Court jester.
My contention is that the Humanists used the ancients method of Rhetoric to debate,write,and display- for example as Cicero did- a formula if you like, on how the ancients used argument for or against something.
It is the formula of rhetoric that seems to be in Tarot to my eyes.
The Fool upsets the formula of the game as well- Which is very good for a game.
