Hi Prudence,

I've just been doing some back reading on Aeclectic. There just hasn't been enough time to fit it all in, but on the subject of the Batelleur I read a post of yours from I think 2005 where you suggested that the Batelleur's "hand/wand may have been a rebellious statement about taxes. I made a similar observation on this forum's topic, and I am now wondering if I might have read your post in the past as a “lurker” long before I ever became a member at Aeclectic or here, and simply forgot about it. If so, I apologize. It was certainly not my intent to plagiarize your post!

No worries at all, Marcei!!! First, that must have been something I read at the Flornoy's site, or in the little booklet that came with the deck, because it is definitely not my original thought or idea. Second, I barely recall writing any of it, so you do not need to treat me like someone with a working memory at all. (my memory is a sieve)

No, I am serious, and now I am starting to worry that I presented it as if it were my idea, which I would not want to do,....I need to go check. For real though, I read it some where like the Flornoy's site, or possibly Roxanne herself posted it and I repeated it...? shrug It's not my idea, I promise!

You know, Prudence, I'm now wondering if I read about that theory on the Flornoy site rather than from your post because they mention the confinement of card makers. Shame on me for not remembering where I read that.

I have the hand colored Noblet majors but have not yet ordered the full deck. I really must do that soon, because from the individual cards I have seen on the internet, that deck is gorgeous! The subtle color adjustments are phenomenal with the light blue moving toward grey and the muted yellow and red etc. (at least that's how it appears on my Mac screen). The clean, crisp perfection of the color fills is just amazing. Jean Claude and Roxanne are real perfectionists.

Did you happen to notice this quote in the review:

The “subliminal messages” conveyed by this coloring (very much on the minds of image makers, incidentally) are joined by two additional colors: light blue and flesh colored.

Guess I'm not the only one who obsesses over color issues!

The full deck does not, inevitably, have that magic touch that the hand-finished deck has. Rather, it is printed on one of those massive printers dating from heavy industrial times in Poland, on the same machine, I seem to recall being told, as LS has many of its decks printed.

Still, the attention to detail that Jean-Claude is fastidious about has meant that the deck as a complete set is an important addition to have.

Personally, I suspect it will within a decade have established itself as 'the' standard TdM-type deck and 'base' tarot deck.
