I think Guénon is taking us to a slightly different level here.. the sort of thing one contemplates rather than rationalizes. It is only through the exercise of one's own effort does the meaning reveal itself.. whether applied to Temperance, the Tower, or the Seal of Solomon.

That being said, in my own personal contemplation of the virtue of temperance, I found Corinthians I verses 12:24-27 to be very insightful.

I can only but agree... as long as that effort is also grounded and based within its syncretic roots.

Yet I also, as both EE and Lorredan suggest, not find the Guénon quote worth much in the context of the cards (nor, for that matter, his whole paper on the Symbolism of the Cross.
