3This is from the Bibliothèque municipale de Nantes, ms. fr. 181, folio 285v. The arms of Philippe de Commines (1447-1511) appear on the first page and throughout the book. The date of this copy should be close to the end of the 15th century then, not the beginning.

It says that the miniatures were done in the workshop of a certain "excellent master François", whom they take to be a son of Jean Fouquet (c. 1420-1481).
It says that the book has two volumes, of which the other (volume 1) is in the Museum Meermano in The Hague, the Netherlands.

4... ... Nice finding ... it seems to solve the problem. Congratulations.
It seems not likely, that it was a 1:1 copy of an earlier motif.

5 Sometimes research has a happy ending. Especially when libraries and museums are generous with their treasures.
It took less than an hour to find it.
Here is volume one -

7Indeed. It's a real discovery, since I've never seen the original image before. I have to thank Google, the Bibliothèque municipale de Nantes, and the constant nagging of unanswered questions for finding it.mmfilesi wrote:GREAT!
