There is an important issue. I have reviewed several books of luck. This is the only case that:

- The questions are serious. In general, these books ask about matters of love or similar. (I will marry?, my lover is good or go with others?)... But in this case the questions are serious (war, trade, ancestry, religion...). Its a book written for princes, not for princesses.

- Another difference is the answers are not clear. Texts are equivocal. They need a magician to interpret it. There is not a book of automagia, as the book of Spirito.

I'll get a Huck post here.

I counted. Indeed it are 74 (one page - Alazimini 2 is a double copy). The first "Atlante delli astrologi principe" sounds, as if it is not a "real astrolog" ... :-) ... but then it would be 73 (which would fit somehow with 365 days for a year; 5x73 = 365). But each of the 74 units has 22 answers.

One is a an astrologa "Helisabeth Regina" ... it appears at the 50th place.

No. 6+8+10+12+14+16+18+20+22 + 28 + 40 are Sybils, totally 11 sybils

No. 6+8+10+12+14+16+18+20+22 is somehow similar to the pairing principle in the Boiardo Tarocchi poem (there are 2-4-6-8-10-12-14-16-18-20 and additionally 21 connected to women.

"22" (Tarot) + 28 (Montefeltro-system) + 40 (Minchiate) + 50 (Mantegna-Tarocchi) are system-numbers, which are known from other places.

It seems, that Fanti wished to express something with this form of sorting. "Atlante delli astrologi principe" would be a foolish element (0= Fool), 22 "Sybilla-Europa" would somehow express the function "World". Sybilla Amalthea reminds the foster-mother of Zeus. Sybilla Erithrea ... I don't know.

Well, Sotzmann (in 1850) states the fact, that it wasn't a bestseller (it's not sure, that he had the same information, that might be gotten today, but he thinks, that there was only one edition ... I don't know, if this is still assumed).

??? Perhaps it was indexed by the inquisition, cause it (made 1526 or begin 1527) contained a true statement about the destiny of the city Rome in 1527 (sacco di Roma), as Sotzmann pointed out.

Image

Sotzmann also noted, that the 22th verse wasn't used for the divination, Fanti took them to present arithmetical and geometrical and other practical problems ...

Image

... :-) ... though he didn't make a note about the 2 unused astrological tables.

Sotzmann also praises the superior quality against other lot books.

Personally I detected a lot of smaller printer mistakes (very often wrong zodiacs).

Some early notes

Especially remarkable are the many members of the Baglione family ... I counted 12 or so. Fanti, although called "Ferrarese", had something with this family, I would assume. The Baglione were in Perugia, which probably also the presence of Nicolo Piccinino explains.
Two d'Este (I'm still not ready with my analyses) I found at prominent position, Ercole (in the Rota group) and Alfonso, still living in 1427 (27 Serpentrario).
Fanti had been an excessive Boiardo fan, which becomes clear in the analyzes of the Rota group. Likely this depends on his stay at Ferrara. But I would assume, that around 1427 he had been in Rome or Perugia. He has a special favor for "living cardinals" and it seems, that he is against pope Clemens VII.

It's a lot of work to analyze all these persons (288 in the rota-group, 144 here) and there are probably some (20 % or so), which have no solution.

The pictures are in the groups (also, also astrologs) usually not equally often used, here one group has 8, another 10, and 2 others have 9 elements.
Occasionally (not always) he sorted with the pictures, for instance architects are usually presented at picture #3, right bottom corner. The left bottom corner are filled with sculptors.

I'm surprised not to see Julius Caesar in there!

For Saturn - Brutus, Crassus, Piccinino and Pompey - betrayers or betrayed. What is the point of having Brutus and Crassus if Caesar is not mentioned? Or is it just unnecessary? Maybe Sigismondo Fanti was one of those who agreed with the aims of the conspiracy - and in this case, feels that Piccinino was right when he turned against Visconti as well (since Visconti betrayed him). No Francesco Sforza, we note, although as Pius II said, he was the luckiest man of the 15th century (I think it was "the only man upon whom Fortune smiled" or something like that).

Edited - sorry, I read too quickly - I saw "Cassius" instead of "Crassus", so my mistake.

The scheme matches the order of the trumps from Devil to World/Angel as well -

Inferno - Devil
Elements - Fuoco, Saetta
Star(s)
Planets (Moon-Sun)
Paradise (World or Angel)

This is the way that both 16th century commentators understood the trump sequence as well - as a cosmological hierarchy.

It's more like Minchiate, I would assume:

unnumbered ... Paradise + planets (in Minchiate sun-moon-star)
35-24 zodiac (star pictures not used)
23-20 elements
... :-) ... and below the usual Inferno, in the Fanti system the 72 different Rota inclusive virtues and vices, the big Wheel of Fortune:

1 --- 72 Fortune
7 --- 71-65 Virtues
7 --- 64-58 artes-Liberales
7 --- 57-51 Vices
1 --- 50 the God of Love
16 - 49-34 kuddelmuddel
10 - 33-24 flying animals
1 --- 23 mixed human-animal (Sirene)
4 --- 19-22 water-animals
18 - 1-18 usual animals

Where did you see Caesar? Ah, you didn't ... He's in the rota world with many other emperor figures, at "01 Liofante"
