Re: Nicolas Conver code bars

The brief answer is that, yes, there are plenty of other TdMs that have lines and squiggles in the spaces between the titles and the edge of the card, and not on every card but only some. There are horizontal and vertical lines, as well as a squiggle here and there. A good example for comparison wit...

Re: Nicolas Conver code bars

I went to the site, and I can't even find a basic translation of "the theory" in English. So hopefully one of our Francophones will translate... well.. the basics.. for us??? http://tarotchoco.quebecblogue.com/ The "gist" I have from what was mentioned earlier, what I see on the site, and what I am...

Re: going back to Folengo

Given the differences in text, I presume that the Renda edition uses instead the editio princeps . The lack of marginal glosses in Portioli might be a clue that this is the case, so the redundant "è" in Renda might be his misprint or a misprint from the original 1526 edition. Wrong - it seems Renda...

Re: going back to Folengo

About "tienti", you are right. It is a reflexive imperative from "tenere". The modern form would be "tieniti" i.e. "tieni te". Keep yourself. I am quite sure that in this context it means: consider yourself (a Trifle). Excellent - so yes, as imperative, it is saying "you have... only a name of high...

Re: going back to Folengo

That's great Marco - I just noticed you had the exact same thought I did about the meaning of "bagatella"!

Am I to take the "ti" of "tienti" as a reflexive pronominal suffix - "hold yourself"? (hence "consider yourself" "you hold yourself to be important, but you are only a trifle.")

Re: going back to Folengo

I agree with both of you that the general sense is clear, but I still have particular ambiguities. Michael, you'll be happy to know that in the Renda edition (the only one with this part of the Caos I think (emended to say - no, it's in Portioli 1889 too, but apparently pretty defectively)), in the ...

Re: going back to Folengo

Hi Marco, I want to discuss this more, but I have a pressing engagement just at this moment. I'll be back soon (a couple of hours). I think Folengo does deserve his own thread. For the translation, I'll have to think about it, but I think it deserves to be explored, given the resonance with Petrarch...

Re: Carolus Zoya

* Do you the job Monsieur ! -I don t want to be banned from may be all the whole web tarot sites... Ha ha. I don't think there's danger in that - don't compare to any other forums you may know. Sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought you were talking to him. Okay I'll forward the message to him. Than...

Re: The "5 x 14 Theory"

On the plus side of the theory, we do have early examples of "non-standard" decks. We know about the "16 gods" deck, and we have the Cary-Yale Visconti which is clearly non-standard. There are also references to the "70 card deck", and to Bianca Visconti having 14 images made for her as an educatio...
