Re: ha ... oldest Tarot located 1517 .. no, 1502 :-) .. no, 1492

What confuses me is not the date. But the place. My French is very poor, but the reference seems to place the Deck on Lyon, not in Milan (or Ferrara, or even Venice). Anyway, is there a way to know if the Tarot referenced on the document is what we call Tarot today (with the 22 Major Arcana that we ...

Re: The Lovers

Hi Michael, I really love the first one, engraved by Johan Sadeler, because it pictures the exact version of the legend that I know. The hard path of the Virtue, leading to beautiful mountains afar and the easy, lovely path of Vice, with a fog that hides where it leads. I like the Hercules at the Cr...

Re: The Star

Wow Hendley, You gave me a whole new golden mine to dig. I've never heard of those emblem books before. I did a quick search and there are a lot of them on line. I think I need to start to use the Vieville as well on my research. The halo is a important clue that is absent on Noblet. ...

robert wrote: Just to clarify, I'm in agreement that the Noblet is one of the decks probably "closer to the source", and have been arguing as much for many years now. Have you read the threads on the Tarot de Marseille I and the Tarot de Marseille II which discuss differences between what...

Re: The Star

robert wrote (Pssst.. you should check out the Vieville World card) Now you are just being mean with Noblet. The cards are almost identical. And both obviously shows Christ in Majesty with four evangelist (like on the Speyer gospel image of 1220). With the added interesting detail that they both us...
